Many re-builders or suppliers of re-builders weld the planet shafts instead of pinning. The extra step of pinning takes some precise machining and a little extra time. Certainly worth it to provide a quality product.
Why is welding the planet shafts a potentially bad idea? Since the shaft is surrounded by roller bearings, heating during welding can cause distortion or damage to the bearings.
